As 2016 draws to a close and 2017 approaches, it’s enjoyable to watch our highlight reels from the year we’re wrapping up. This has been another incredibly busy year, but even with all the flurry of keeping a family of 10 on the rails, I’ve managed to post 65 times in 2016. Not too bad! There would have been more, but I’ve taken several breaks from blogging to concentrate on my book.
I found it interesting that most of the Top 10 from 2015 are still some of the most popular posts with my readers. For this list, I only included posts I published in 2016. So here are your favorite posts from this past year. Enjoy rereading the ones you liked and catch up on the ones you missed.
Most Popular Posts of 2016
#1 I wrote How to Help Your Teen Become a Responsible Adult for the Life of a Homeschool Mom blog. In it, I share about balancing boundaries and freedom with your teen. We currently have two teenagers and one almost-teen in the house, so this is a relevant topic for our family. Our oldest has successfully navigated into adulthood.
#2 Which leads me to the second favorite, When Your Boy Becomes a Man. I wrote this on the eve of my eldest son’s 18th birthday. It was another post I never meant to write. I’m always surprised how the spontaneous posts are the ones the readers like the best. (The ones I invest my whole self into often go mostly unread. There’s a lesson for me in there somewhere!)
#4 Remember that election we had back in November? Yeah. I’m trying to forget too. My increasing anxiety drove me to turn off all news notifications on my phone. Apparently, I wasn’t alone. Many people appreciated A Christian Response to Election Anxiety. If your candidate of choice didn’t win, it may still be relevant. You can also apply the Biblically-based truth to a variety of anxieties over things beyond our control.
#5 In October, I participated once again in the Write 31 Days challenge. My topic was on prayer and I expanded the simple statements of the Lord’s Prayer throughout the series. The most popular post from that series was 7 Ways to Ask God for Help.
#6 In Watch What You Say to Your Children, I share a humorous story of how what I said to my daughter came back to bite me later. I also give you a few tips to avoid similar embarrassment.
#7 Wrecked for Good is the final of 3 posts sharing my story of surrender, loss, and grief that led me to the darkest and loneliest place in my life. This part of the prayer series tells how I personally lived “Thy will be done” and the result of submitting myself to God’s plan for my life. This post is the cornerstone for why I write what I write. If you only have time to read one, will you please make it this one?
#9 Another popular post from the prayer series is 3 Reasons Why You Should Use Scripture to Pray. It’s not too late to snag your own copy of my printable prayer guide here. I will also continue to update the additional free printables that complement the prayer guide. Perhaps you can combine information from #8 and #9 and commit to having a personal prayer time with God each day. I can think of no better way to kick off a new year!
#10 In 7 Weeks to Build a Stronger Body, I give you motivation and tools to nourish yourself and build a stronger body for God, your loved ones, and yourself. Keeping your body strong is another great way to start the new year.
An honorable mention that didn’t make the Top 10 is A Few Things Most People Don’t Know About Me.
Even though it ranked pretty high on the top posts, I didn’t include it in this list because it was published last year. It wasn’t on last year’s list either because it didn’t get much attention until this year, which I find intriguing.
It’s a lengthy post where I answer 11 questions a fellow blogger asked me and share 11 interesting facts about myself. You can skip around to the questions you find the most entertaining, I like #7 and #9 (and also random fact #6). Let me know what your favorite responses are.
Thank you so much for joining me on my writing journey! I’m really having a hoot, but I’m always amazed that you fantastic people keep showing up to join me. There would be no Top Ten List without you! All my posts would be zeroes if you didn’t pop in to read along. I never take your time and attention for granted. I strive to do my best for you and not waste your time by serving up junk. I value all your feedback, input, questions, comments, support, encouragement, and camaraderie. I’m praying for you!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
