Jesus Calling (Dallas: Thomas Nelson, 2011)

Are you looking for a fresh devotional to kick off 2016?

The one I have chosen for next year is Jesus Calling by Sarah Young.  I have already started reading it and I can’t say enough good things about this little book.  Each day contains a brief message written to your heart from the point of view of Jesus speaking directly to you.  At the bottom, there are 2 or 3 verses from Scripture that reinforce the text of the devotional.  Sarah has a way of communicating the heart of God towards us in such a personal and relatable way.

Reading this book each morning only takes me a couple of minutes, but it is having a significant impact on my relationship with Jesus.  It has influenced the way I think about Him and what I tell myself about the way He thinks about me.  This book also makes a great gift to give for Christmas.  There is a version for everyone on your list:  women, men, teens, and even children.

Out of the Spin Cycle: Devotions to Lighten Your Mother Load (Grand Rapids, Michigan: Revell, 2010)

I am really enjoying this devotional book by Jen Hatmaker.  She is so real and honest, and just flat out hilarious.  I can identify so well with how she describes motherhood and all its ups and downs.  I particularly enjoy the way she infuses her humorous stories with the love of Jesus.  Each reading is short–perfect for busy moms.  Each day also has a couple of questions and a suggested action step to help you quickly apply what you just read.
